Abu Dhabi's AI Industry Booms With Over 400 New Companies In 2024

The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has reported a significant rise in AI companies, with over 400 registered by the end of Q2 2024. This growth highlights the increasing interest in AI within the Emirate.

A study by the Chamber revealed that, on average, one AI company was established every two days in Abu Dhabi during H1 2024. This rapid pace positions AI as one of the fastest-growing sectors for new company formations, reflecting Abu Dhabi's dedication to becoming a global innovation hub.

AI Boom in Abu Dhabi

In just six months, around 90 AI companies were established, marking a 41.3% increase compared to the previous year. An earlier study from February indicated that the number of registered AI companies grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 67% between 2021 and 2023.

The recent study also highlighted that commercial activities related to innovation and AI research and consultancies were predominant, accounting for 69% of all activities in Q2 2024. This shows growing interest from both government and private sectors in advancing technology through high-level research and consulting services.

AI training activities ranked second, making up 11%, followed by the management and operation of AI robotic systems at 10%. Wholesale trading of AI training accounted for 8%, while retail sales of AI robots comprised 2%.

The Chamber's initiatives play a crucial role in supporting these companies by providing platforms for communication and collaboration. They facilitate commercial exchange and develop policies that create an ideal environment for AI company growth.

Chamber's Role in Advancing AI

The Abu Dhabi Chamber is pivotal in promoting innovation and digital transformation. Their strategy aims to position Abu Dhabi as the top choice for business and talent in the MENA region by 2025. To achieve this, they offer comprehensive digital services tailored to meet the needs of AI companies.

Among their global initiatives is the ChamberGPT AI platform, which saw over 6,000 interactions from 85 countries. This reflects a 39% increase in messages received during Q2 2024 and a significant rise in international engagement.

The Chamber acts as a bridge between AI companies and regulatory bodies within Abu Dhabi and across the UAE. Through various programmes and events, they ensure that current and future sector needs are met effectively.

This rapid expansion underscores Abu Dhabi's attractiveness as a leading hub for technological innovation on both regional and global scales. The Chamber's efforts align with their strategy to make Abu Dhabi a premier destination for business excellence by providing essential resources, information, market insights, and support necessary for success.
