Abdullah Bin Zayed And Chinese Foreign Minister Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership
At the invitation of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, a senior Chinese official visited the UAE on 12th and 13th December. The visit involved comprehensive discussions on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing mutual concerns between the two nations.
The UAE and China have seen significant progress in their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligning with the aspirations of both countries' leaderships and citizens for advancement. They agreed to implement key understandings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to China in May 2024, aiming to broaden relations at all levels.
China expressed unwavering support for the UAE's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In return, the UAE reiterated its commitment to the One China principle, recognising Taiwan as an integral part of China. The UAE also supports China's efforts towards national unification and opposes external interference in China's internal matters.
The Chinese side backed the UAE's peaceful resolution efforts regarding the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa through bilateral negotiations based on international law principles. Additionally, China praised the UAE's development achievements across various sectors.
The UAE appreciated China's Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. The Chinese invited the UAE to engage in these initiatives. Both nations expressed readiness to enhance cooperation in economy, trade, investment, energy sectors, technology, research, and infrastructure.
Military cooperation was also highlighted alongside efforts to combat extremism and terrorism. The importance of cultural exchanges in education, tourism, and civil aviation was stressed to further enrich their strategic partnership.
Regional Cooperation
The UAE supported China's hosting of the second China–Arab States Summit in 2026 and parallel GCC-China Summit for Cooperation and Development. Both sides are committed to concluding negotiations on a China–GCC free trade agreement promptly.
Both countries reaffirmed their dedication to achieving peace based on a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel according to international law. They appreciated global efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza Strip to alleviate humanitarian suffering.
Global Engagement
The Chinese side acknowledged the UAE's influential role in regional stability while the UAE commended China's contributions towards global peace. Both nations aim to enhance collaboration within multilateral platforms like the United Nations and BRICS for global prosperity.
The visit underscored mutual appreciation for practical cooperation outcomes across various fields. Both sides are keen on advancing communication within international organisations to achieve greater progress worldwide.
