Abdulla Al Hamed Highlights Digital Media's Impact On Future Societies And Calls For Preparedness
Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and UAE Media Council, discussed digital media's transformative role in shaping societies. He highlighted its significant impact on various life aspects and stressed the importance of preparing to harness its potential for community development. Al Hamed called for shared responsibility to address challenges from digital media's rapid evolution, urging stakeholders to adapt responsibly to maximise its benefits.
During a session titled ‘Content Creators: A Double-Edged Sword?’, moderated by journalist Ammar Taqi, Al Hamed shared insights at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2025. This summit, organised by the UAE Government Media Office, is the world's largest event dedicated to the content creator economy. It takes place in Dubai from 11 to 13 January at Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre, and the Museum of the Future.
Al Hamed stated, "Digital media should be viewed as a precious opportunity to drive transformative social changes that benefit humanity, societies, and nations. It opens unprecedented horizons that can be leveraged to raise awareness, promote positivity, and share human values that drive progress, prosperity, and spread goodness to all." He emphasised that while digital media offers immense benefits, it also presents increasing challenges for individuals and communities.
The summit's theme ‘Content for Good’ has attracted over 15,000 content creators and influencers, 420 speakers, and 125 global executives and experts. Al Hamed noted that rapid digital media evolution requires quick adaptation with a proactive vision. This enhances readiness to manage risks in technology or content creation sectors. He stressed that future developments will not allow anyone to remain isolated.
Al Hamed highlighted the UAE’s strategic leadership in recognising digital media's importance early on. The country has worked strategically to lead this sector while addressing social and cultural challenges. "The UAE has worked strategically to lead this sector," he said. The summit reflects the UAE’s commitment to creating a sustainable economic industry across various fields through digital advancements.
He emphasised developing strategies ensuring positive engagement with global openness while preserving identity and values. Al Hamed added that governments must support content creators producing meaningful content. Institutions and investment companies should support startups in this field. Content creators play a pivotal role in spreading positive messages and raising societal awareness.
Collective Responsibility for Digital Media Challenges
Al Hamed stressed collective responsibility among governments, institutions, private companies, content creators, and the public on digital platforms. "We must all work transparently and consciously together," he stated. Supporting good content is essential due to misinformation spread; audiences must encourage good content and seek information from trusted sources.
He noted an unprecedented global shift driven by digital media and content creation is underway. "We must be fully prepared to engage positively with these opportunities and challenges," he said. The rapid development pace waits for no one.
The summit underscores the UAE’s leadership in embracing future opportunities within this sector while working towards societal prosperity through technological advancements.
