Washington Wizards Name Brian Keefe Full-Time Head Coach In Strategic Move
The Washington Wizards have appointed Brian Keefe as their permanent head coach, the team announced on Wednesday. Keefe, who had been serving as the interim head coach, will now take on the role full-time. "We are excited for Brian to become our next head coach. Brian is a proven motivator and connector of people," said Wizards general manager Will Dawkins.
Dawkins added, "As a leader in the organisation, he will continue to positively grow and invest into the development of our players. His wealth of experience will help move our team forward as we build for long-term sustained success." Keefe's appointment marks him as the 26th head coach in the franchise's history.

Keefe was promoted to head coach on January 25 after Wes Unseld Jr. transitioned to a front office advisory role. At that time, Washington held a 7-36 record. Under Keefe's leadership, the team went 8-31, concluding the season with a 15-67 record, the second-worst in the NBA.
The Wizards now hold the No. 2 overall selection in June's NBA Draft, a crucial opportunity for the team to bolster its roster. The upcoming draft pick is expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of the franchise under Keefe's guidance.
Keefe's journey with the Wizards began earlier this year, and despite the challenging season, his ability to connect with players and staff has been highlighted as a key factor in his permanent appointment. The organisation is optimistic about his potential to lead the team towards better performance and long-term success.
