Tatum Credits Cavaliers' Effort As Celtics Move Closer To Conference Finals

Jayson Tatum praised the Cleveland Cavaliers for their resilience in Donovan Mitchell's absence after leading the Boston Celtics to a 3-1 advantage in the Eastern Conference semifinal series. Tatum scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping the Celtics secure a 109-102 victory on Monday. This win puts Boston one game away from reaching the conference finals for the third consecutive year.

Cleveland, already missing starting center Jarrett Allen due to a rib contusion, also played without their leading scorer Mitchell, who suffered a calf strain in Game 3. Despite these setbacks, the Cavaliers remained competitive until Jaylen Brown hit a crucial three-pointer with 69 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Derrick White and Tatum then sealed the win with free throws.

Tatum Praises Cavs as Celtics Near Finals

Darius Garland led the Cavaliers with 30 points and seven assists, while Caris LeVert added 19 points. Tatum acknowledged Cleveland's effort, stating, "When the best player goes out, everybody has more freedom, more opportunity. Obviously, we knew it wasn't going to be easy. It's the playoffs; they don't want to go home."

Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff commended his team's performance, saying, "They laid it all out there. They gave us everything that they had. They competed at a high level. They played the game properly. I'm proud of the guys, the way they went out and scrapped and competed and gave ourselves a chance."

Boston now has an opportunity to close out the series in Game 5 at TD Garden on Wednesday. Brown expressed his eagerness to secure a win at home, noting, "There's nothing better than winning a playoff game on the road. It's like everybody's against you guys. It's a tough environment; the crowd was great."

He added, "As a competitor, it's really fun to be in an environment like that, to win on the road. Now it's time to go back and play well in front of our fans and give them something to cheer for and try to get a win."

The Celtics will look to leverage their home-court advantage as they aim to advance further in the playoffs.
