Russell Westbrook Secures Two-Year Contract With Denver Nuggets
Russell Westbrook has signed a two-year contract with the Denver Nuggets, which includes a player option for the 2025-26 season. Earlier this month, he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Utah Jazz. The Jazz then agreed to a contract buyout with Westbrook, facilitating his move to Denver.
Westbrook's agent, Jeff Schwartz, confirmed the contract details to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Nuggets announced his arrival on social media, marking Westbrook's sixth team in seven years. "It's official: Russ is a Denver Nugget," read the team's tweet.

In the 2023-24 season with the Clippers, Westbrook averaged career lows of 11.1 points and 4.5 assists per game while grabbing 5 rebounds. He played in 68 games, starting only in 11 of them. His shooting percentage from beyond the arc was just 27.3%, ranking second-lowest among players with at least 150 attempts.
Despite these stats, Denver sees potential in Westbrook to provide depth and support for reigning MVP Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets believe his experience and skills can help ease Jokic's workload as they aim for better results in the upcoming season.
Westbrook will earn approximately $6.8 million with the Nuggets. This financial commitment reflects Denver's belief in his ability to contribute significantly to their roster. His addition comes after the team lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in last season's Western Conference semifinals.
The trade that brought Westbrook to Utah involved several second-round draft picks sent by the Clippers. This move was anticipated as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Denver's lineup ahead of the new season.
The Nuggets' decision to sign Westbrook underscores their intent to bolster their squad with experienced players who can make an immediate impact. As they prepare for another competitive season, all eyes will be on how well Westbrook integrates into his new team.
Westbrook’s journey continues as he joins a team eager for success and looking to leverage his veteran presence on and off the court.
