D'Angelo Russell Breaks Lakers' 3-Point Record In Key Win Over Sixers

D'Angelo Russell has etched his name into Los Angeles Lakers history by setting a new record for the most 3-pointers in a single season. This achievement came as the Lakers ended their seven-game losing streak with a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The game, which took place on Friday, saw Los Angeles securing a 101-94 win, marking their first triumph over Philadelphia since March 2020. With this win, the Lakers' record now mirrors that of the Sixers at 38-32.

The fourth quarter was pivotal for the Lakers as they managed to pull ahead in what was a tightly contested, low-scoring affair. This game recorded the lowest points tally for the Lakers since January 3. LeBron James, who contributed significantly in the fourth quarter with 11 of his 20 points, alongside eight rebounds and six assists, acknowledged the team's less-than-perfect performance but highlighted their defensive efforts. "It was ugly, but we got the job done," LeBron stated, emphasizing the importance of their defensive play in the second half.

Russell Sets Lakers' 3-Point Record

Anthony Davis also played a crucial role in the victory, amassing 23 points and 19 rebounds. Meanwhile, Russell's contribution of 14 points included four 3-pointers. His performance surpassed Nick Van Exel's previous record of 183 successful 3-pointers set during the 1994-95 season. Russell achieved his record-breaking 184th three-pointer in the first quarter, following a remarkable six 3-pointers in a win against the Atlanta Hawks earlier in the week.

Russell expressed his gratitude and ambition following his achievement: "It just feels good to be part of one of these type of deals. This franchise is one of the most prestigious, so to have my name be a part of it, more than grateful. Just continue to shatter it, if I can. Make it really hard for the next person!"

On the opposing side, Tyrese Maxey scored 27 points for the Sixers, who have been struggling without MVP Joel Embiid, losing seven out of their last ten games. The Sixers are currently on a four-game West Coast road trip and will face the Los Angeles Clippers next. Despite the loss, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse commended his team's effort and execution.

The Lakers are showing signs of resurgence with seven wins in their last eleven games and are set to host the Indiana Pacers next. They currently stand ninth in the Western Conference standings.
