Rockets' Playoff Hopes Rest On Continued Success, Says Jalen Green
Jalen Green emphasized the importance of the Houston Rockets making the NBA Playoffs, despite their impressive performance, including his 41 points in the recent 147-119 victory over the Utah Jazz. This win marks the Rockets' eighth consecutive victory, a streak not seen since 2019, bringing their season record to an even 35-35. They now stand just 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the final Play-In spot in the Western Conference. Green's outstanding performance, alongside Fred VanVleet's 34 points and 10 3-pointers, propelled Houston to a significant early lead they maintained throughout the game.
When discussing the Rockets' ascent in the standings, Green highlighted that their efforts would be futile without securing a playoff berth. "It won't really mean anything if we don't make the playoffs. That's the goal everyone has right now," he stated, underscoring his commitment to contributing his best for the team. The game also witnessed a heated moment early in the second quarter when Houston's Jabari Smith Jr. and Utah's Kris Dunn were ejected for exchanging punches, a dispute that escalated from verbal exchanges to physical confrontation.

Dunn later took responsibility for his actions, acknowledging his role in the altercation and expressing respect for any decisions made by the league regarding disciplinary measures. This incident was not the first between Dunn and Smith; they had previously clashed on January 20, leading to technical fouls for both players during an overtime victory for Houston.
Rockets coach Ime Udoka provided insights into the altercation, suggesting it was a continuation of their previous encounter. "I think Dunn hit him with a shot, and then they got wrapped up and threw a few punches," Udoka explained, noting that despite no punches landing effectively, league rules mandate ejection for such actions.
Looking ahead, the Rockets are set to continue their campaign with a home game against the Portland Trail Blazers followed by road games against Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz. Meanwhile, the Jazz aims to break their five-game losing streak starting with a series of home games against the Dallas Mavericks. As both teams navigate through these crucial matchups, their performances could significantly impact their standings as the season progresses.
