New Orleans Pelicans Acquire Star Guard Dejounte Murray In Trade With Atlanta Hawks
The New Orleans Pelicans are set to acquire star guard Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks. In exchange, the Pelicans will send forward Larry Nance Jr., guard Dyson Daniels, and two first-round picks to Atlanta, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The trade involves a 2025 first-round pick via the Lakers and a 2027 first-round pick, which is the least favorable between Milwaukee and New Orleans. This move follows the Hawks' selection of French prospect Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Wednesday.

Murray, who joined Atlanta from San Antonio in July 2022 for three first-round picks, has had an impressive stint with the Hawks. Over two seasons, he averaged 21.5 points across 152 games. Despite his performance, the team struggled with a 77-87 record and missed the playoffs last season with a 36-46 mark.
Murray's addition strengthens an already formidable Pelicans lineup that includes Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum. The Pelicans finished last season with a solid 49-33 record. Murray's career-high averages last season were 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game.
Atlanta gains valuable assets in this deal, including multiple first-round picks and two players. Dyson Daniels was the eighth overall pick in 2022 and averaged 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds last season. Larry Nance Jr., a nine-year veteran, contributed an average of 5.7 points and five rebounds in 61 games for New Orleans last season.
Future Prospects
Murray's shooting efficiency also stood out as he shot 45.9 percent from the field and made a career-high 201 three-pointers last season. His skills will be crucial for the Pelicans as they aim to build on their successful previous season.
For Atlanta, acquiring young talent like Daniels along with experienced players such as Nance Jr., coupled with future draft picks, provides them with flexibility for rebuilding or making further strategic moves in upcoming seasons.
