Malik Monk Commits To Sacramento Kings With $78 Million Four-Year Contract
The Sacramento Kings have secured a crucial player for their future endeavours, aiming to build on their recent NBA play-in tournament appearances. Malik Monk, a proficient scoring guard, has agreed to a four-year, $78 million contract extension with the Kings, as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday night. The contract's final year includes a player option.
Monk achieved career highs last season, averaging 15.4 points and 5.1 assists per game. His performance earned him second place in the Sixth Man of the Year award voting. A seven-year veteran from Kentucky, Monk was set to become an unrestricted free agent on June 30.

Monk's new contract will see him earn $36 million over the next two years, matching his earnings from his first seven NBA seasons. This deal locks him in for four years with the Kings, including a player option in the final season.

Monk had attracted interest from several teams seeking perimeter scoring in free agency, including the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic. However, these teams will now need to explore other options. Throughout his career, Monk has averaged 11.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 458 NBA games.
The Kings have not won a play-off series since 2004 but have achieved back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 2004-06 period. In 2023, Sacramento ended a 16-year post-season drought and pushed the defending champion Golden State Warriors to a Game 7 in their first-round play-off series loss.
