LeBron James Commits To Lakers With $104 Million Contract, Eyes Historic Father-Son Team-Up

LeBron James will continue his career with the Los Angeles Lakers for at least another season, playing alongside his son. ESPN reports that James has agreed to a new contract on Wednesday. The deal is a two-year, $104 million agreement, including a player option for the 2025-26 season and a no-trade clause.

This contract allows the Lakers to feature the first father-son duo in NBA history. The team selected Bronny James Jr. in the second round of last week's draft. LeBron, who turns 40 in December, will be entering his 22nd NBA season and seventh with the Lakers. Despite his age, he remains one of the league's top players.

LeBron's New $104M Lakers Deal

LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 71 games last season. He played through a persistent left ankle injury for much of the campaign but still delivered impressive performances.

James was one of only three players to average at least 25 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists per game in the 2023-24 season. The other two were NBA MVP Luka Dončić and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić.

The four-time MVP and NBA champion reached significant milestones last season. He became the first player to be named to 20 All-Star teams and surpassed 40,000 career points.

Lakers' Recent Performance

LeBron led the Lakers to an NBA title during the COVID-19 affected 2019-20 season. He also guided them to an unexpected run to the Western Conference finals in 2023. However, they were eliminated in this year's playoffs after losing to the Nuggets in five games.

The Lakers drafted Bronny James with the 55th overall pick after he spent one season at USC. Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during practice last summer but was medically cleared following surgery and played in 25 games for USC.

James continues to defy age-related expectations by maintaining elite performance levels on the court. His ability to contribute significantly despite injuries underscores his enduring talent and dedication.

The upcoming seasons promise excitement as LeBron aims for more achievements while playing alongside his son Bronny with the Lakers.
