Lakers Reportedly Set To Appoint Dan Hurley As Head Coach In Strategic Move
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly set to appoint Connecticut Huskies head coach Dan Hurley as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Darvin Ham. Ham was let go last month after the Lakers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in a five-game series during the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Since winning their last NBA championship in the 2019-20 season, the Lakers have only advanced beyond the first round of the postseason once in four years. They missed the playoffs entirely in the 2021-22 season. According to ESPN, the Lakers have interviewed several candidates and have now decided on Hurley.

Hurley has been with UConn for six seasons and has led them to consecutive national titles over the past two years. His record with the Huskies stands at 141-58. The Lakers are reportedly preparing a substantial, long-term contract offer for Hurley, who has previously expressed a desire to coach in the NBA.
Hurley appears to have outperformed other candidates, including Charlotte Hornets assistant James Borrego, Boston Celtics assistant Sam Cassell, and Denver Nuggets assistant David Adelman, all of whom were also interviewed for the position.
