Sacramento Kings Secure DeMar DeRozan From Bulls In Strategic Move
The Sacramento Kings have secured free agent guard DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls through a sign-and-trade deal. The agreement involves a three-year, $74 million contract for DeRozan. In return, the Kings will send forward Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs, while guard Chris Duarte, two second-round picks, and cash will go to the Bulls.DeRozan's contract includes $59 million in guaranteed money, with full guarantees for the first two years and a partial guarantee for the final year. This addition strengthens Sacramento's core, which already features All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox, All-Star center Domantas Sabonis, and promising forward Keegan Murray.DeRozan is a six-time All-Star who recently completed an impressive three-year stint with the Bulls. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 24 points on 48 percent shooting, along with 4.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Over his 15 NBA seasons with Toronto, San Antonio, and Chicago, he has averaged 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 1,110 career games. The Kings finished ninth in the Western Conference last season with a 46-36 record. They were eager to make significant moves to improve their standing. DeRozan's arrival is expected to bolster their lineup considerably. At age 34, DeRozan may no longer be a primary scoring option but is well-suited for a secondary role on this talent-laden Sacramento team. His experience and scoring ability should complement the existing roster effectively.DeRozan travelled to Sacramento on Saturday to meet with team officials and head coach Mike Brown. Brown recently signed an offseason contract extension after leading the franchise to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2006.
