Boston Celtics Dominate Dallas Mavericks In NBA Finals Game 1 Victory
Jaylen Brown led six players in double figures with 22 points, and Kristaps Porziņģis added 20 in his first game in over a month as the Boston Celtics secured a 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night. Jayson Tatum contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Derrick White scored 15 for the Celtics, who improved to 13-2 in the playoffs with their eighth consecutive win as they aim for their 18th NBA title. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday night in Boston.
Porziņģis came off the bench and made an immediate impact in his first game since April 29 due to a strained right calf. He recorded six rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes. Luka Dončić led Dallas with 30 points and 10 rebounds, but former Celtic Kyrie Irving managed just 12 points on 6-of-19 shooting and missed all five of his three-point attempts. Dallas totalled just nine assists on 35 field goals, marking its lowest scoring total of the postseason.

Boston started strong, leading by as much as 29 points in the first half. However, Dallas opened the third quarter with a 22-9 run, narrowing the gap to 72-64 following a three-pointer from Dončić. The Celtics quickly responded with a decisive 14-point run, featuring three-pointers from Tatum, Al Horford, and Brown, extending their lead to 86-64.
Brown's performance was complemented by Porziņģis' return, which provided a significant boost for Boston. Tatum's double-double and White's consistent scoring further solidified the team's dominance. On the other hand, Dončić's efforts were not enough to overcome Boston's balanced attack, especially with Irving struggling to find his rhythm.
Looking Ahead
The Celtics' victory sets a strong tone for the series as they continue their quest for another championship. With Game 2 approaching, both teams will be looking to adjust their strategies. Boston aims to maintain its momentum, while Dallas will need to find ways to support Dončić and improve their overall team performance.
