Celtics Secure Historic 18th NBA Title, An Unforgettable Night For Tatum
Jayson Tatum expressed immense joy after the Boston Celtics secured their 18th NBA title, marking a memorable night in his career. The Celtics clinched the championship with a 106-88 victory over the Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA finals on Monday. This win is their first league championship since 2008.
Boston's dominant season included a league-best regular-season record of 64-18. They maintained this momentum in the post-season, achieving a 16-3 record to secure their record-breaking 18th title, surpassing the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite losing Game 4 on the road, the Celtics bounced back impressively, with Tatum leading the charge by scoring 31 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and providing 11 assists.

"This is going to be a night that I will remember for the rest of my life," Tatum said. "From the game, the celebration, these moments." He reflected on past playoff disappointments, including losing an NBA championship at home and missing a chance to beat Miami in Game 6 a few years ago. "To have a big win - the biggest win that you could have in front of your home crowd - I felt like that was really important," he added.
Kristaps Porzingis, who missed Games 3 and 4 due to a leg injury, contributed 16 minutes off the bench in the decisive game. He revealed post-game that he would require surgery but chose to play despite the risks. "I think something could have happened, for sure, especially compensating now on the other leg," Porzingis told ESPN. "There was definitely some added risk, but I didn't care."
Porzingis shared his determination to play: "Since last game, I've been thinking ... 'How can I get my body ready for next game?' Like, no matter how it is. And today I was like, 'I'm going to try everything possible to get out there.' And, man, it feels great to be a champion."
The Celtics' victory was celebrated widely by fans and players alike. The team’s official Twitter account shared their excitement with a post stating "WE THE CHAMPS BABY" alongside a celebratory video.
The Boston Celtics' journey to this title has been marked by resilience and determination. Their ability to overcome past setbacks and perform under pressure has solidified their place in NBA history.
