Cavaliers' Evan Mobley Agrees To $224 Million Extension Over Five Years
Cleveland Cavaliers' Evan Mobley has secured a five-year, $224 million maximum rookie contract extension. This deal could rise to $269 million with incentives, as confirmed by agents Joe Smith and Thad Foucher of Wasserman to ESPN.
Since being the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Mobley has become one of the league's top defensive players. In 2023, he finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting and earned a spot on the first team All-Defense.
Mobley, aged 23, averaged 15.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks last season. He also achieved career-high shooting percentages: 57.9% overall, 37.3% from three-point range, and 71.9% from the free-throw line.
Over his career spanning 198 games, Mobley has averaged 15.6 points on 54.4% shooting, along with 8.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.
Mobley is among just four players to record at least 300 blocks and 150 steals over the past three seasons. The others are Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert, and Jaren Jackson Jr.
An early-season knee injury limited him to only 50 regular-season games in the 2023-24 season, affecting his chances for a second consecutive all-defense selection.
Playoff Performance
In Cleveland's final game of the 2024 playoffs against the Boston Celtics, Mobley had one of his best performances as a professional player. He scored 33 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked two shots in a Game 5 loss.
Cavaliers' Offseason Moves
The Cavaliers have made significant changes this offseason by hiring Kenny Atkinson as head coach to replace J.B. Bickerstaff. They also signed star guard Donovan Mitchell to a three-year, $150.3 million max extension.
