VinFast Breaks Ground On New Electric Vehicle Facility In Tamil Nadu, Strengthening India's Green Transport

VinFast, the leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer from Vietnam, has initiated the construction of its pioneering integrated EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India. This significant move not only marks VinFast's entry into the Indian market but also highlights its commitment to fostering global green transportation initiatives. The establishment of this facility is expected to generate employment for around 3,500 local individuals, showcasing VinFast's dedication to contributing positively to the local economy.

The groundbreaking event saw the presence of notable dignitaries including Thiru M. K. Stalin, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; Thiru Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Honorable Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu; and Thiru V. Arun Roy IAS, Industries Secretary, among others. The facility, sprawling over 400 acres within the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) industrial estate, represents an initial investment of $500 million over five years. With a projected annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, this venture is set to significantly boost local employment.

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast India, expressed his enthusiasm about this venture, stating that the establishment of the Thoothukudi facility is a major step towards achieving sustainable and green mobility in India. He emphasized that this initiative would not only create job opportunities but also promote green transportation and foster strategic partnerships, thereby reinforcing the economic and environmental ties between Vietnam and India.

Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa further highlighted Tamil Nadu's role as a global automotive innovation and manufacturing hub and expressed confidence in the project's ability to contribute substantially to local economic development, job creation, and technical skill enhancement.

This project is a crucial part of VinFast's global expansion strategy, positioning India as a key market alongside its existing manufacturing complex in Vietnam and future plants in the U.S. and Indonesia. This expansion underscores VinFast's ambition to establish a robust global manufacturing ecosystem.
