UAE: How To Observe Accident Free-Day And Reduce Four Black Points Today
The UAE government prioritises the safety of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. To achieve this, various initiatives, including awareness campaigns, have been implemented. These campaigns educate people about traffic laws and the consequences of violating them. One such initiative is the "Accident-Free Day" campaign, which has been running for five years before schools reopen after vacations.
Each Emirate's road and transport department ensures the enforcement of traffic laws. Local authorities work continuously to maintain road infrastructure. However, with many new drivers on UAE roads each year, repeating awareness campaigns becomes necessary.

Besides the campaign, there are common traffic rules that every driver should follow to ensure safety on the roads. For instance, adhering to speed limits is crucial as they vary from road to road in the UAE.
Common Traffic Rules to Follow
Next-generation traffic cameras in the UAE monitor traffic offences. Here are some essential rules every driver must follow:
- Adhere to Speed Limits: Follow the specified speed limits for safe driving.
- Jumping Signals: Ignoring traffic signals can lead to severe consequences and a fine of Dh500 in Abu Dhabi.
- Wear Seat Belts: Always wear seat belts for your safety and others'.
- Maintain Safe Distance: Avoid tailgating by keeping a 3-second gap from other vehicles.
- Phone Usage: Using phones while driving is a major cause of accidents.
- Stay in Designated Lanes: Stick to your lane and avoid reckless lane changes.
- Driving Under Influence: Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs; it's dangerous and illegal.
- Respect School Zones: Slow down in school zones to protect young pedestrians.
- Use Child Safety Seats: Ensure children's safety by using appropriate child safety seats.
The Accident-Free Day campaign also highlights some breaches that can result in fines up to Dh2,000 in the UAE. For example, stopping in the middle of the road due to vehicle malfunction or lack of modern safety features can lead to accidents.
No Accident Traffic Awareness Day
The Accident-Free Day will spread awareness about traffic rules and safe driving practices across the UAE. This initiative is part of broader efforts by local authorities like Dubai police, who launched campaigns regarding revised traffic laws and fines in Dubai.
Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, explained that the "Accident-Free Day" campaign is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to enhance traffic safety and align with the UAE government's vision for road safety.
He emphasized that the campaign aims to foster a culture of responsible driving by educating drivers on vehicle safety, adhering to speed limits near schools, avoiding distractions such as mobile phones, following traffic lanes, maintaining safe distances, prioritizing pedestrians, and giving precedence to emergency vehicles. This collective effort is essential for creating a traffic environment free from accidents.
The emergency police number for reporting accidents anywhere in the UAE is 999.
