Tesla Recalls Over 4000 Cybertrucks. Find Out Why
Tesla has initiated a recall for 3,878 of its 2024 Cybertruck models due to a potentially hazardous issue where the accelerator pedal can become stuck, raising the risk of unintended acceleration and possible collisions. This concern was highlighted in a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), revealing that the accelerator pedal pad could dislodge and get trapped by the interior trim. The recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024.
According to the NHTSA, Tesla has taken corrective measures to address this safety issue, with affected Cybertrucks in production receiving a new accelerator pedal component as of this week. Despite the gravity of the situation, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities linked to the defect as of the latest updates. Tesla, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has committed to either replacing or repairing the accelerator pedal assembly at no cost to the owners.
Vehicle owners can expect to receive notification letters in June, advising them on how to proceed with the recall. They are also encouraged to reach out to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for any immediate concerns, referencing the recall number SB-24-33-003. This recall comes at a time when Tesla had just begun delivering its highly anticipated Cybertruck to customers in November, albeit two years later than initially planned. The delay was attributed to challenges faced in mass production, with Musk candidly noting during a third-quarter conference call that the company had "dug its own grave with Cybertruck."
