British Oxa Teams Up With Bayanat To Launch Autonomous Vehicles In The UAE

In a strategic move poised to reshape the mobility landscape in the United Arab Emirates, British autonomous vehicle software developer Oxa has embarked on a collaborative venture with Abu Dhabi-based AI geospatial and smart mobility company Bayanat. This partnership heralds a new era for the deployment of self-driving cars in the Middle East, leveraging both companies' strengths to bring innovative solutions to the region.

Oxa, hailing from Oxford and having secured a substantial £115m in a Series C funding round that featured contributions from Google last year, brings to the table its advanced autonomous vehicle (AV) software capabilities. Bayanat, known for its expertise in AI geospatial analytics, will complement these capabilities by facilitating the identification of optimal routes for the safe introduction of this technology in urban areas across the UAE.

The collaboration was officially formed to fast-track the development and deployment of autonomous vehicle solutions, promising to revolutionize transportation and contribute to the evolution of smart city solutions. Hasan Al Hosani, managing director of Bayanat, emphasized the significance of this partnership in transforming transportation, enhancing mobility, safety, and efficiency in urban settings.

Supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office through its Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry cluster, this initiative stands as a testament to the region's commitment to adopting and advancing smart mobility solutions. Oxa CEO Gary Jackson highlighted the strategic alignment with partners like Bayanat and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) as crucial to bringing their leading autonomy solutions to a broader market.

Jackson also pointed to the synergy between Oxa's commercial deployment experiences in the US and Bayanat's technical prowess and extensive network in the GCC as a catalyst for accelerating the adoption of autonomous technologies across various applications. This partnership follows Oxa's successful launch of a driverless passenger shuttle bus in Florida, US, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion efforts.

As this collaboration unfolds, it positions the UAE at the forefront of adopting autonomous vehicle technology, potentially setting a benchmark for smart mobility solutions in urban environments worldwide.
