Masdar City Debuts Region's Largest Sustainable Pump Track For Diverse Wheels
Masdar City, an Abu Dhabi-based sustainable urban community, has inaugurated the region’s largest pump track. This facility, located in Masdar Park, is designed for various wheeled activities including bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and wheelchairs. The pump track spans more than 7,500 sq m and features shaded hills, banked turns, and rest areas.
The track comprises three routes totaling over 500 m and caters to all skill levels, from beginners to professionals. It is also inclusive of people of determination. The project was developed in collaboration with Switzerland’s Velosolutions, a globally recognised track builder.

The pump track was constructed using sustainable methods. Construction waste from previous Masdar City projects was repurposed for the build. Additionally, liquid natural clay (LNC) was used in combination with soil to conserve water. This innovative approach aligns with Masdar City's commitment to sustainability.
As part of the project, Masdar City conducted a seven-month study involving live digital monitoring of soil moisture around the track. This included areas with trees, ground covers, and shrubs. The study revealed significant water savings, demonstrating up to 60% savings for trees at certain times of the year and an overall average savings of 40%.
The grand opening event on May 11 featured demonstrations by professional cyclists, community competitions, giveaways, music, and food. The event aimed to engage the community and showcase the new facility's features.
Masdar City's new pump track not only provides a recreational space for various wheeled activities but also highlights sustainable construction practices. This initiative reflects the city's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and community engagement.
