Masdar City Launches Autonomous Vehicle Testing For Sustainable Transport
Masdar City has begun testing autonomous vehicles, aiming to transform urban transport sustainability. This initiative, highlighted at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), strengthens Masdar City's role in sustainable innovation. As a Strategic Partner of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), Masdar City is showcasing its autonomous vehicle projects, engaging with policymakers and industry leaders to foster a greener future.
The first vehicle under trial is an electric shuttle equipped with advanced LIDAR sensors and software for independent navigation. These trials are the start of a series involving vehicles from various global brands. Masdar City plans to deploy seven advanced autonomous vehicles, selected based on these tests, to meet its zero-emission transport goals.

The Mobility Cluster at Masdar City acts as a hub for sustainable and autonomous mobility solutions. It unites global industry leaders, regulators, and innovators to develop technologies that redefine urban transport. This ecosystem encourages collaboration and accelerates the deployment of mobility solutions tailored to the Middle East’s environment.
Solution+, the official fleet operator, partners with Masdar City to manage operations within the city’s expanding autonomous vehicle network. This partnership is part of Masdar City's broader strategy to establish a fleet of autonomous vehicles aligned with zero-emission goals. The initiative includes testing multiple advanced mobility solutions from various global companies.
Ahmed Baghoum, CEO of Masdar City, stated, "These tests mark a significant step toward creating a truly sustainable transportation ecosystem. By collaborating with global innovators, we aim to position Masdar City as a global benchmark for zero-emission autonomous mobility. Testing a diverse range of self-driving technologies will help us identify the best solutions for our community and beyond."
Masdar City hosts the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI), reinforcing its leadership in next-generation mobility solutions research and development. This initiative supports collaboration and facilitates testing new concepts in smart urban transport.
By leveraging its Mobility Cluster, Masdar City continues leading in smart and sustainable urban transport. The city’s efforts contribute significantly to redefining urban transportation through innovative technologies and strategic partnerships.
