Lexus Launches LX 700h With Innovative Hybrid Technology For Luxury SUVs

Lexus has achieved another milestone with the unveiling of the LX 700h, marking a significant step towards carbon neutrality by integrating a newly developed hybrid system into the LX series. The LX 700h is designed to significantly lower annual CO2 emissions, aligning with the evolving expectations of Lexus customers for environmentally friendly luxury vehicles.

The LX 700h introduces a parallel hybrid system to the LX line for the first time. This new system is a testament to Lexus's ongoing effort to redefine automotive innovation, ensuring customers enjoy reduced carbon footprints while still benefiting from the SUV's well-established ruggedness and versatility.

Takami Yokoo, the Lexus International Chief Engineer overseeing the development of the new LX, emphasized the challenge of integrating electrification into the LX series without sacrificing its hallmark features. Yokoo stated, "In 2021, the LX underwent a full model change based on the concept of 'effortless and refined driving on any road,' earning widespread acclaim from customers worldwide, for which we are sincerely grateful.

"However, it posed a challenge within the Lexus lineup, as it remained the only model without an electrified option―despite our commitment to achieving a carbon-neutral society. During development, we were determined in our commitment not to compromise the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that has defined previous LX models, even with electrification."

The new hybrid powertrain combines a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine with a motor generator and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This setup ensures smooth transitions between motor and engine power, maintaining the vehicle's renowned four-wheel-drive capabilities and responsiveness.

The development team focused on preserving the Lexus Driving Signature, characterized by a blend of agility on the road and superior off-road capability. They achieved this by making several structural enhancements to accommodate the hybrid system's additional weight without sacrificing ground clearance or performance.

For the first time in Lexus's history, the LX 700h features motor-driven power in its low-range gear, enhancing off-road performance with precise throttle control in challenging conditions. This innovation, alongside the Multi-Terrain Select system, ensures the LX remains adept across various terrains. Lexus has also improved vehicle rigidity and handling stability, incorporating radiator support modifications, instrument panel reinforcements, and newly designed cab mount cushions to enhance the driving experience.

Lexus introduces the OVERTRAIL edition, inspired by the LEXUS OVERTRAIL PROJECT, which caters to adventurous customers seeking exceptional off-road performance and distinct aesthetics. This edition showcases unique design elements, including a black gloss spindle grille and exclusive “Moon Desert” body color, enhancing its rugged appeal. The interior features a monolith theme with ash burl black ornamentation, embodying Lexus's luxury ethos in an off-road context. The OVERTRAIL edition's differential locks and specialized all-terrain tires underscore its enhanced capability on challenging terrains.

Safety remains paramount in the LX series, with the latest Lexus Safety System+ incorporating features like Proactive Driving Assist and Pre-Collision Safety, offering comprehensive protection for drivers and passengers. The LX also introduces Lexus Teammate, which includes Advanced Drive and Advanced Park systems, providing assistance in traffic jams and parking scenarios, respectively. These innovations exemplify Lexus's dedication to delivering a safe, stress-free driving experience.

In addition to these advancements, the LX series introduces an advanced Rear Air Conditioning Automatic Activation Control system, designed to optimize cooling efficiency in high temperatures.
