Jaguar C-X75 Shifts From James Bond Villainy To Street-Legal Status
The Jaguar C-X75, a concept car that captured the imaginations of car enthusiasts worldwide in 2010, is making headlines once again. This time, it's a transformation that bridges the gap between cinematic allure and real-world thrills. One of the four V8-powered stunt cars featured in the James Bond film Spectre is undergoing a transformation to become street-legal, thanks to the efforts of UK-based firm Callum, led by none other than the designer of the original concept, Ian Callum.
Originally constructed in 2015 by Williams Advanced Engineering, the movie car's design was inspired by the C-X75 concept and executed by JLR's Special Vehicle Operations division. While the original concept was known for its innovative combination of dual diesel gas microturbines and quad electric motors, this version boasts a supercharged 5.0-liter V8, housed within a tubular spaceframe chassis draped in concept-inspired bodywork.

Fast forward to 2024, an enthusiast with a passion for the unique has commissioned Callum to undertake the ambitious task of making this prototype suitable for UK roads. The project is far from a simple tweak; it involves a meticulous overhaul that preserves the car's essence while ensuring it meets the stringent standards required for public road usage.
In pursuit of the Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) certification, Callum's team embarked on an exhaustive series of modifications. The carbon fiber bodywork was meticulously resurfaced and repainted, panel gaps were minimized, and the quick-release latches were removed. In a notable departure from its cinematic role, the prototype's faux foam mirrors were replaced with custom-made, functional mirrors featuring integrated indicators.
The transformation extended to the car's internals and legal compliance features. "Hundreds of changes" were made to meet IVA standards, including the installation of E-marked glass, new switchgear, and a quieter exhaust system equipped with catalytic converters. The adjustments also involved fine-tuning the V8 powertrain's calibration and making slight modifications to the dampers and ride height, ensuring a blend of performance and legality.
Through this ambitious project, Callum has not only preserved the Jaguar C-X75's legacy but has also elevated it to a new level of exclusivity. As this one-of-a-kind vehicle nears completion, it stands as a testament to the fusion of cinematic glamour and engineering prowess, now poised to grace the UK's roads as the ultimate collector's item.
