Hyundai Motor Group Completes Landmark Hydrogen Mobility Trial In NEOM's Trojena Region
In a groundbreaking development in the realm of sustainable transportation, Hyundai Motor Group, in collaboration with Enowa, NEOM's energy and water arm, has successfully completed a landmark hydrogen mobility trial in the high-altitude terrains of Trojena, located within NEOM, in Saudi Arabia.
The trial involved the use of Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, the UNIVERSE coach bus, which traversed mountainous paths in Trojena, reaching elevations of up to 2,080 meters and tackling gradients as steep as 24%.

This not only tested the vehicle's capabilities but also showcased the viability of hydrogen technology for passenger transport in high-altitude settings, simulating a route from NEOM's forthcoming business district to Trojena.
This pioneering test is a continuation of Hyundai Motor Group's long-standing commitment to hydrogen technology, which began in the late 1990s and aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and the global push towards climate neutrality. It underscores the Group's dedication to spearheading the hydrogen mobility sector and its contribution towards achieving a decarbonized future.
Additionally, this trial builds upon a comprehensive agreement signed in September 2024 between Hyundai Motor Group and NEOM's Mobility sector. The memorandum of understanding aims to explore and introduce next-generation zero-emission mobility solutions to NEOM, further enhancing the region's sustainability initiatives.
A key facilitator for this trial was Enowa's recent installation of the region's first hydrogen refueling station, which supported the operation of the UNIVERSE Fuel Cell bus for VIP transport within NEOM from October to December of the previous year. This infrastructure development is pivotal for the practical deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles, ensuring their operational viability in real-world conditions.
To commemorate this significant achievement and share insights into the project, Hyundai Motor Group, alongside NEOM and Enowa, released a video. It captures the UNIVERSE Fuel Cell bus navigating through Trojena's rugged landscape, coupled with interviews from project partners. This visual documentation underscores the collaborative effort towards promoting sustainable mobility solutions and the practical application of hydrogen technology in diverse environmental settings.
This successful venture in NEOM is a critical step forward in realizing Saudi Arabia's ambitious vision for economic transformation and the promotion of future industries. It opens avenues for Hyundai Motor Group and NEOM to expand their partnership in sustainable solutions, emphasizing their mutual commitment to a cleaner, hydrogen-powered future.
Hyundai Motor Group's endeavor to revolutionize the energy sector extends beyond vehicle manufacturing. Through its dedicated hydrogen brand and business platform, HTWO, the Group is fostering global energy transition.
HTWO aims to leverage Hyundai's comprehensive expertise in hydrogen technology, from production and storage to application, establishing itself as an open platform for collaboration, investment, and partnership. This initiative is instrumental in propelling the Group's efforts to cultivate a sustainable hydrogen economy.
