Exploring New Cities Or Avoiding Traffic? See What's Latest On Google Maps And Waze
Even a well-navigated diver does need a help or two with their Google Maps and Waze. As the urban streets keep getting updated for enhanced experience, Google Maps and Waze are also upping their services to provide more useful information for drivers.
Whether you're on a weekend trip, exploring a new city, or avoiding traffic, these apps offer the details you need for a smooth journey. On July 31, they introduced new features to keep you safer and better informed while travelling. Have you noticed them yet? Here are some of the useful features that will help you go the long way safely.

Enhanced Incident Reporting in Google Maps
If traffic suddenly stops while you're driving, Google Maps now makes it easier to report incidents. You can share information about construction, lane closures, objects on the road, and police presence. These reports come from both Maps and Waze communities. Larger icons make it simpler to tap and share updates quickly. Other drivers can confirm incidents with a single tap. This feature is now available globally on Android, iOS, cars with Google built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
New Destination Guidance in Google Maps
Finding your way to unfamiliar buildings can be tricky. Google Maps' new destination guidance highlights your building and its entrance as you approach. It also shows nearby parking lots. This is especially helpful when arriving at night or in the dark. The destination guidance feature will roll out globally on Android, iOS, cars with Google Built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay in the coming weeks.
Camera Alerts in Waze
With new traffic rules to ensure safer cities, the UAE and Saudi Arabia and the cities worldwide are adding cameras to enforce speed limits and lane obedience. Waze now includes alerts for these cameras. Community members update the map using real-world information and public data from local authorities. Alerts notify you of cameras monitoring speeding, red lights, wrong lane usage (like bus or carpool lanes), seatbelt use, or phone use while driving. These alerts help remind you of local traffic rules so you can adjust accordingly. The new camera types are rolling out globally on Android and iOS.

Real-Time Traffic Information Sharing in Waze
Events like parades and concerts can cause road congestion. Waze's new traffic events feature helps you understand how these events impact traffic nearby. If you've driven through an affected area or have saved places near it in Waze, you'll get notifications when events start. You'll see details like event causes, road closures, and real-time traffic conditions. You can easily share this information with friends and family to help them prepare for their trips. This feature is now available globally on Android and iOS.
Navigate with Locked Screen in Waze
Waze drivers can now receive navigation guidance even when their phone screen is locked. This includes turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, and hazard alerts while keeping the phone secure. Lock screen navigation is launching globally on Waze for Android this month and will be available on iOS this autumn.
These new features on Google Maps and Waze will surely make your drive much smoother with their top priority to keep drivers informed during their travels.
