FIA Ethics Committee Exonerates President Mohammed Ben Sulayem Of Allegations

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, recently received a significant show of support amidst controversy. An official letter from 34 heads of FIA Member Clubs and Sport Federations of America has been sent to him, expressing their full backing. This comes in the wake of accusations levelled against Ben Sulayem for allegedly interfering with the proceedings of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year.

An exhaustive internal investigation, conducted by external and independent members and involving interviews with over ten witnesses, led to a report by the FIA Ethics Committee. The findings absolved Ben Sulayem of any misconduct, stating that the "Allegations against the FIA President were unsubstantiated." The committee further praised Ben Sulayem for his transparency and compliance throughout the investigation process, which ultimately led to his exoneration due to a lack of evidence supporting the allegations.

In response to these unfounded claims, Ben Sulayem had previously addressed member clubs, emphasizing that such allegations sought to undermine the leadership and foundational integrity of the FIA, a stance he deemed intolerable. The rallying support from over thirty heads of FIA Member Clubs and Sport Federations of America underscores their confidence in Ben Sulayem's honourable actions, as mentioned in their letter published on the FIA website.

The letter's signatories also criticized certain media outlets for perpetuating biased and wrongful news aimed at tarnishing Ben Sulayem’s reputation, despite his numerous accomplishments as FIA President. They called for legal action against those who slandered him, reinforcing their endorsement and vote of confidence in Ben Sulayem’s leadership. They commended his efforts to steer the FIA towards greater ethical standards and transparency, aiming to better serve its members.
