Dubai's RTA Urges Summer Vehicle Checks For Road Safety
In Dubai, as the summer season approaches, bringing with it an anticipated increase in road travel, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is issuing a vital reminder to motorists about the importance of vehicle maintenance. The RTA is urging drivers to ensure their vehicles are in top condition to prevent sudden mechanical failures that could result in traffic accidents. This call to action is crucial for ensuring road safety during the hotter months when vehicles are particularly susceptible to breakdowns.
The RTA has outlined several key areas for drivers to focus on, including the condition of tyres, brakes, oils, cooling fluids, air conditioning systems, batteries, lights, and windshield wipers. Additionally, motorists are advised to inspect their vehicles for any oil or water leaks. Such precautions are essential for minimizing the risk of accidents due to vehicle malfunction.

This initiative is part of the RTA's ongoing efforts to educate the public on traffic safety, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, under the "Safe Summer" campaign. Despite the mandatory annual vehicle inspections required for ownership renewal, the RTA stresses the importance of continuous, regular checks by drivers, especially before embarking on long road trips or extensive travel.
Bader Al Siri, Executive Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the strategy behind these efforts. "Dubai's traffic safety strategy is founded on key pillars, including enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, traffic awareness, and the management of vehicle movements," he explained. Al Siri further noted that regular vehicle inspection and maintenance are cornerstone practices for ensuring road safety and preventing accidents.
To effectively communicate the importance of vehicle maintenance, the RTA has devised a plan to disseminate awareness messages across various platforms. These messages are being promoted through social media and at customer service centres of the RTA's partners, such as driving institutes, car dealerships, and malls. The emphasis is on the collective responsibility of drivers, passengers, and all road users to maintain vehicle safety, especially during the summer months.
Through these measures, the RTA aims to instill a culture of regular vehicle maintenance among drivers in Dubai, reinforcing the message that a well-maintained vehicle is not just a legal requirement but a crucial aspect of road safety. As summer progresses, the RTA's initiative serves as a timely reminder of the small but significant steps every motorist can take to ensure a safer driving experience for themselves and others on the road.
