Dubai Launches Clean-Up Drive To Remove 68 Neglected Vehicles
Dubai Municipality has launched a campaign to track and remove neglected vehicles across nine registration and testing centres in the Emirate. This initiative is part of the Municipality's efforts to maintain hygiene, sustainability, and Dubai's unique aesthetic.
Eng. Saeed Safar, Director of the Waste Operations Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the campaign's role in preserving Dubai's urban appeal and mitigating environmental impacts. He highlighted the Municipality's commitment to community awareness regarding the impact of neglected vehicles on public aesthetics and environmental health.
Targeted Centres for Vehicle Clearance
The campaign focused on several key centres including Warsan, Al Qusais, Shamil Muhaisnah, Nadd Al Hammar, Al Aweir, Al Barsha, Al Mumayaz, and Al Jadaf. During this operation, approximately 68 vehicle clearance alerts were issued. Additionally, 38 poster alerts and 30 SMS notifications were sent out for abandoned vehicles found in parking lots and courtyards.
Over the past month, a dedicated monitoring team has been actively identifying and documenting neglected vehicles. This team works in collaboration with the Road and Transport Authority and contracted parking companies. They have identified various types of neglected vehicles ranging from light vehicles to heavy equipment and maritime vehicles.
Community Awareness Campaign
Safar underscored the Municipality's annual community awareness campaign titled "My Vehicle: Clean Vehicle, Sustainable City." This campaign aims to reduce vehicle abandonment and promote responsible vehicle ownership. It educates the public on the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and proper parking practices to uphold Dubai's aesthetic and environmental standards.
Administrative procedures include issuing warnings to vehicle owners with a grace period for compliance before vehicles are towed to impoundment yards in Al Awir. This step ensures that owners have an opportunity to address the issue before more stringent measures are taken.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by Dubai Municipality to maintain cleanliness and sustainability within the city. By addressing neglected vehicles, they aim to enhance both public aesthetics and environmental health.
