RTA And Dubai Police Launch Joint Patrol Units For Heavy Vehicles Monitoring

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police General Headquarters have introduced Joint Patrol Units to monitor heavy vehicles in Dubai. These units aim to enforce technical compliance among heavy vehicles on six major roads, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, according to Dubai Media Office.

Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, stated, "The launch of Joint Patrol Units for Heavy Vehicles Monitoring and enforcing heavy vehicle compliance on Dubai's key roads is part of the ongoing cooperation between Dubai Police and RTA to implement the 5-Year Executive Plan for the Traffic Safety Strategy. This strategy focuses on four key areas: traffic monitoring and enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, traffic awareness, and the development of systems and management."

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, highlighted that these patrol units will ensure that heavy vehicles comply with safety standards. He said inspections will cover tyre safety, lighting efficiency, overloading issues, protruding cargo, and driving without a valid licence or permit.

Al Ghaithi praised the collaboration between Dubai Police and RTA. He noted that this partnership has significantly reduced traffic fatalities and helped achieve the goals of Dubai's traffic safety strategy. He urged heavy vehicle drivers to follow traffic laws, maintain safe distances, conduct regular inspections, take breaks during long trips, avoid distractions, and ensure tyre safety.

Al Banna added that these Joint Patrol Units reflect the close cooperation between RTA and Dubai Police in promoting traffic safety. Their goal is to strengthen enforcement against heavy vehicle violations and work towards a 'Zero Fatalities' vision. Between 2007 and 2023, traffic-related fatalities have decreased by 93%.

Al Banna also emphasised RTA's commitment to enhancing the land logistics sector's competitiveness. With 73,861 registered heavy vehicles in Dubai, RTA aims to improve business practices by simplifying regulations and modernising fleets with zero-emission vehicles. They also focus on improving driver behaviour and vehicle performance while supporting SMEs.

In addition to these efforts, RTA has completed 10 out of 16 planned truck rest stops developed in partnership with ADNOC. These rest stops are located at strategic sites such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. Each stop spans between 5,000 to 10,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 45 trucks or heavy vehicles.

The rest stops are equipped with essential facilities like prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, and rest areas for drivers. These amenities aim to provide comfort for truck drivers during their journeys across Dubai's major roads.
