Brembo Set To Outfit Major Part Of 2024 Formula 1 Grid With Latest Braking Systems
Brembo stands out as a leader in the Formula One World Championship, gearing up for the 2024 season with the Bahrain Grand Prix set for 1-3 March. With a prestigious history in Formula 1 dating back to 1975 and boasting over 500 Grand Prix victories with its braking systems, Brembo is set to equip the majority of the single-seaters with its state-of-the-art hydraulic and friction components.
Over the last two decades, Brembo has significantly innovated the design of carbon discs in Formula 1. From the early 2000s, when Brembo carbon discs were 28mm thick with up to 72 holes, today's versions have seen remarkable improvements. The front axle carbon disc now measures between 278mm to 328mm in diameter with a thickness of 32mm, featuring between 1,000 and 1,100 holes for enhanced cooling. The rear discs have also evolved, now spanning 266mm to 280mm in diameter with around 900 holes in the most advanced cooling setups.

For the 2024 championship, teams utilizing Brembo's technology will have access to two distinct types of carbon discs: "wide spline" and "single-sided spline", each designed to meet the unique needs of the teams based on their car designs.
Comprehensive Brembo Group Caliper Supply
In 2024, Brembo's presence on the grid is confirmed to be all-encompassing, with the Brembo Group supplying brake calipers to all 10 teams. Specifically, 9 teams will feature Brembo calipers, while one team will use AP Racing calipers, also part of the Bergamo-based Brembo Group. These calipers, compliant with the maximum regulations of 6 pistons, are crafted from solid aluminum and nickel-plated for optimal performance.
Enhanced Brake Management and Clutch Systems
The upcoming season will also see Brembo and AP Racing equip five teams with brake pumps, and four teams will benefit from by-wire units developed by Brembo for precise rear braking management. Additionally, eight teams will incorporate clutches manufactured by AP Racing, further testament to Brembo's comprehensive offering in the racing arena.
Customization and Telemetry Innovations
Brembo's commitment to customization and innovation doesn't stop at manufacturing. The company's engineers have closely collaborated with each team to tailor the brake calipers, balancing weight and stiffness to meet the specific demands of each single-seater. This customization extends to the integration of sensors for real-time monitoring of disc and caliper temperatures, enabling teams to achieve optimal temperature management and braking balance.
As the 2024 Formula One season approaches, Brembo's legacy and commitment to innovation continue to set the standard in the championship's competitive landscape. The company's tailored solutions and advanced technologies are poised to support the teams in their pursuit of victory, solidifying Brembo's status as a pivotal player in the world of Formula One racing.
