BMW Motorrad Launches 2024 R NineT And R 12 Classic Models: Embodying Heritage And Modernity

BMW Motorrad has unveiled its latest additions to the R nineT and R 12 series, introducing the 2024 R 12 nineT and R 12 Classic Roadster and Cruiser models. These new motorcycles continue the tradition of blending classic design with modern technology and customization options that the BMW Motorrad Heritage line is known for.

The R nineT was first introduced in 2013 and quickly became a favorite among motorcycle enthusiasts. It combined classic motorcycle design with innovative features and customization possibilities. The success of the R nineT led BMW Motorrad to expand its Roadster lineup, and the new R 12 nineT aims to follow in its footsteps.

2024 R nineT and R 12: Tradition Meets Tech

The R 12 nineT is a classic roadster that offers a stylish look for urban environments and delivers dynamic riding performance on winding roads. The design of the new model focuses on maintaining the look, timelessness, and customization options that made the R nineT so popular.On the other hand, the R 12 is designed as a classic cruiser, perfect for relaxed and cool riding experiences. It embodies the motto "The Spirit of Easy" and offers a comfortable and laid-back riding position.

Both the R 12 nineT and R 12 are equipped with a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled 2-cylinder boxer engine. The R 12 nineT delivers 109 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 85 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm, while the R 12 offers 95 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 81 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. Both models feature a 6-speed transmission with a drive shaft.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail on the new R 12 models are exemplary. They are designed to be easily customizable, allowing riders to tailor the motorcycles to their preferences. The R 12 nineT features a left-side exhaust system with double mufflers and conical end caps, along with a new under-seat airbox. The Classic trellis frame with a bolted-on rear section adds to the overall aesthetic appeal.

In terms of performance, the R 12 models are equipped with fully adjustable upside-down telescopic front forks and Paralever rear swing arms with revised travel-dependent damping. They also feature radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake calipers, steel flex brake lines, and floating 310 mm brake discs for optimal braking performance. The BMW Motorrad ABS Pro system ensures safer braking even when cornering.

The new R 12 nineT and R 12 come with standard riding modes, including "Rain," "Road," and "Dynamic" for the R 12 nineT, and "Roll" and "Rock" for the R 12. They also feature DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and Engine Drag Torque Control as standard. Both models offer tailored customization options through genuine BMW Motorrad accessories. They come with standard LED lighting, with the option for adaptive Headlight Pro. Keyless Ride is also a standard feature.

The design of the R 12 nineT showcases a rising, dynamic line with an aluminum tank, brushed and clear-coated side panels, and a compact and short tail section. The R 12, on the other hand, features a classic teardrop-shaped steel tank reminiscent of the "Toaster Tanks" of the 1970s BMW /5 models.

The new R 12 nineT and R 12 are available in three attractive paint options each. The R 12 nineT comes in Standard Blackstorm Metallic, Optional San Remo Green Metallic, and Optional Option 719 "Aluminum" in brushed Aluminum / Night Black. The R 12 is available in Standard Blackstorm Metallic, Optional Aventurine Red Metallic, and Optional Option 719 "Thorium" in Avus Silver Metallic.

The boxer engine has been a staple of BMW motorcycles for the past 100 years, and the R 12 nineT and R 12 models continue this tradition. The air/oil-cooled boxer engine with a 1,170 cc capacity delivers impressive power and torque for both dynamic riding and relaxed cruising. The distinctive sound and abundant torque that BMW boxer engines are known for are evident in these models.

The new R 12 nineT and R 12 offer a combination of classic design and optimal ergonomics. The R 12 nineT features a seat height of 31.3 inches, while the R 12 offers a lower seat height of 29.7 inches. The ergonomics of both models have been improved, with the shorter fuel tank allowing for a more front-oriented seating position.
