Autonomous vehicles have arrived in Abu Dhabi! In a groundbreaking venture, Uber Technologies, Inc. and WeRide have introduced autonomous vehicles (AVs) to Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone in transportation.

This collaboration signifies the debut of AVs on Uber's platform outside the United States and establishes the most extensive commercial robotaxi service beyond the US and China. The service, which commenced today, offers Uber users in Abu Dhabi the opportunity to be transported in a WeRide autonomous vehicle when they select UberX or Uber Comfort for trips. Initially covering key locations such as Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and the routes to Zayed International Airport, there are plans to widen the service area in the future. To assure safety and dependability, each AV will include a safety operator onboard until the transition to a fully autonomous service, expected by 2025.
