Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Triumphs In Japan's SUPER GT For First International Win
The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 has clinched its first international victory, a notable achievement just four months following its global reveal at Silverstone. Competing in Japan's esteemed AUTOBACS SUPER GT Series, the British ultra-luxury marque celebrated its inaugural series win, underpinning Aston Martin's competitive edge in global endurance racing.
This historic victory was secured by the Japanese team D'station Racing, an Aston Martin partner in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), at the 3-Hour race in Suzuka. Drivers Tomonobu Fujii from Japan and Charlie Fagg from Great Britain led the team to triumph. They not only won the race but also secured the class pole position, marking a series of firsts for the team and Aston Martin.
Fujii, who doubles as the managing director of the team, also clocked the fastest race lap, marking his first SUPER GT win since 2016. The #777 D'station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 finished a remarkable 38 seconds ahead of its closest competitor, showcasing a dominant performance throughout the race.
In addition to this win, Aston Martin's presence was felt in the United States. The Heart of Racing, another of Aston Martin's WEC partner teams, recorded its best season result by finishing third in the GTD Pro class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Detroit. Aston Martin works driver Ross Gunn and GTD Pro class race-winner Alex Riberas showcased the Vantage GT3's prowess on the challenging street circuit of Detroit, earning the car's first podium in a sprint format event.
Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport at Aston Martin, expressed satisfaction with the Vantage GT3's performance, emphasizing the significance of the victory in Japan and the strong showing in Detroit ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans preparations. Carter highlighted the partnership with D'station Racing since 2019 and their collective growth leading to such formidable results on the track.
D'station Racing has been an integral part of Aston Martin Racing since 2019, marking Aston Martin's SUPER GT debut with the previous generation Vantage GT3. The team's achievements include winning a Japanese domestic title in 2021, the Super Taikyu crown, a testament to the partnership's strength and dedication.
Currently, 25 Aston Martin Vantage GT3s are competing across over 10 significant GT series worldwide, with expectations of the number growing to at least 35 by the end of its debut season. The new Vantage GT3, which shares its mechanical architecture with the ultra-luxury new Vantage road car, boasts advanced aerodynamics, revised suspension, and state-of-the-art electronics, setting a new standard for Aston Martin in GT racing.
