Allison Transmission Debuts Groundbreaking 9-Speed Model For Enhanced Fuel Efficiency In The Middle East

Allison Transmission, recognized globally for its expertise in producing medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions, has unveiled its latest innovation in the Middle East: the all-new 9-Speed transmission for commercial vehicles. This development marks a significant step forward in the company's offerings, building on the success of the 2000 Series transmission which has amassed around 200 million kilometres of global usage.

Designed to enhance the operational efficiency of commercial vehicles, such as 8-metre midi buses, the 9-Speed transmission aims to deliver increased uptime, superior fuel economy, and improved performance, all while lowering maintenance costs in demanding start-stop duty cycles. This introduction positions Allison Transmission as a forward-thinking player in providing sustainable transportation solutions across the Middle East.

With the launch of the 9-Speed transmission, Allison addresses the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions in the Middle East. This transmission is suitable for a wide array of medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, including distribution and rental trucks, school buses, specialty vehicles, and defence machinery. The 9-Speed transmission not only signifies Allison's commitment to sustainable transport but also marks a significant achievement for the company in the region over the last year. Notably, Allison has collaborated with bus manufacturers such as King Long and Yutong & Higer, contributing to the transportation needs of major events in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Enhanced Performance and Fuel Economy

The Allison 9-Speed transmission is distinguished by its nine forward gears, including three overdrive gears, which significantly reduce fuel consumption. The inclusion of new gears optimizes performance during frequent start-stop cycles, and the ninth gear further enhances fuel efficiency without compromising on performance. The transmission's design includes industry-leading ratio coverage and incorporates Allison's FuelSense 2.0 with DynActive Shifting and xFE technologies, leading to notable fuel savings.

This innovative transmission also boasts features such as higher engine and Gross Combined Weight (GCW) ratings, optimised skip-shifting, a lifetime filter, an integral cooler, an input retarder, and an integrated engine stop-start system with vehicle hold, all contributing to its standout performance.

Collaboration with Otokar for Launch

The Allison 9-Speed transmission was launched in collaboration with Turkish vehicle manufacturer Otokar, featuring in the new Otokar Navigo Giga 9.2 M bus. This model, which has a seating capacity for 39 passengers, is powered by the Cummins four-cylinder ISB4 5 engine in combination with the new 9-Speed transmission, showcasing the capabilities of Allison's latest offering.

Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Area Sales & OEM Account Manager Middle East & Pakistan at Allison Transmission, highlighted the 9-Speed transmission's role in meeting the pressing needs for performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions reductions across various commercial applications. He emphasized the transmission's ability to help Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users adhere to greenhouse gas regulation requirements, owing to its remarkable fuel economy and enhanced gear ratios.

Allison eGen Power: A Leap into Electric Mobility

Expanding its portfolio, Allison Transmission also offers the Allison eGen Power family of fully electric axles, designed to replace traditional powertrains in medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses with electric power. The eGen Power axles, available in versions ranging from 8.5T to 13T, provide a seamless integration into existing vehicle designs, supporting the transition to electric mobility. A notable collaboration with Anadolu Isuzu has integrated the eGen Power 85S into the fully electric Isuzu Novo VOLT bus, demonstrating Allison's commitment to innovative and sustainable transport solutions.
