Abu Dhabi To Dubai In Just 30 Minutes: How This Seaglider Will Transform Your Journey
The UAE is rocking it with its urban mobility options. A new, revolutionary mode of transport, the Seaglider, is set to redefine the journey between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, offering a swift, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative to conventional travel methods.
This innovative vehicle, powered entirely by electricity, seamlessly merges the rapidity of airplane flights with the convenience of maritime travel, all the while maintaining a commitment to zero emissions. It can reach speeds of up to 290 km/h while flying just above the water’s surface, reducing drag and avoiding waves.

The functionality of the Seaglider is distinct and versatile, operating across three modes to ensure efficiency and comfort. Initially, it floats to facilitate easy boarding and disembarkation at docks. For takeoff, it skims the water's surface to minimize drag and navigate through waves effortlessly. Once airborne, it maintains a low altitude over the water, enabling high-speed travel.
A standout feature of the Seaglider is its affordability and speed, with an estimated fare of Dh165 for a journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, which it can complete in a mere 30 minutes. Such efficiency not only presents an attractive alternative to traditional taxis but also aligns with the UAE's environmental goals by operating without emitting any pollutants.
The Seaglider, developed by the American start-up Regent Craft, was introduced by CEO Billy Thalheimer at the World Governments Summit in Dubai last week. Thalheimer presented the Viceroy Seaglider, illustrating its potential to revolutionize travel within the UAE. With the backing of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office through a collaboration agreement inked in 2024, this innovation is on the fast track to becoming a reality, promising changes in the way residents and visitors traverse the country's coastal cities.
The enthusiasm for the Seaglider in the UAE is evidenced by a consumer survey, where 98% of local respondents expressed interest in the project, a significantly higher percentage than the global interest rate of 86%. This heightened anticipation is understandable, given that 85% of the UAE's population lives along the coast, making the Seaglider an especially relevant and promising addition to the region's transport options.
Looking ahead, the Seaglider is currently in the prototype testing phase, with expectations to launch operational vehicles within the next two years. This timeline underscores the UAE's commitment to pioneering futuristic transport solutions, which also include the development of trackless trams, rail buses, and the anticipated introduction of flying taxis across Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
