Abu Dhabi To Host First-Ever Aspire Autonomous Racing League Event
Abu Dhabi is gearing up for a significant event in the world of motorsports and technology, the Aspire Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL), set to take place on April 27 at the prestigious Yas Marina Circuit. This event marks a milestone as it is considered the largest autonomous car race globally, attracting an audience of 10,000 spectators. Competing for a substantial prize purse of $2.25 million, eight teams, including Code19 Racing, Constructor University, Fly Eagle, Humda Lab, Kinetiz, PoliMOVE, Unimore, and Technical University of Munich, will showcase their technological prowess.
Each team will operate an identical Dallara Super Formula SF23 car, renowned for being among the fastest open-wheel race cars worldwide, with potential speeds reaching up to 300 km/h. These vehicles will be equipped with autonomous racing stacks developed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), challenging teams to employ their coding skills alongside AI algorithms and machine learning software to navigate the track.

The competition's format is unique, featuring four autonomous cars racing simultaneously on the track—a first of its kind endeavor. The event will culminate in an Overtaking Challenge to determine the winner among the top performers from earlier Lap Test and Speed Test rounds. Adding to the excitement, an AI vs Human car race will pit TII's autonomous vehicle against former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat.
Adnoc stands as the title sponsor for A2RL, with Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Group MD & CEO of Adnoc, emphasizing the event's role in promoting technological advancement and economic growth. The league has also garnered support from a variety of sponsors such as Du, DMT, AWS, and Mubadala, alongside media partners like Motorsports Inc. Arabia, FastCompany Middle East, and What’s On. Technical expertise is provided by Dallara, Danisi Engineering, Meccanica 42, and Vislink to ensure a high standard of innovation and performance.
An exclusive Fan Zone will offer engaging activities for families and enthusiasts alike, featuring a VR zone and an AI museum. Additionally, a STEM Competition will allow young students to demonstrate their coding abilities with 1:8 scale autonomous racing cars. For those unable to attend in person, the race will be available through various live streaming channels.
The A2RL event is a highlight of Abu Dhabi Mobility Week, which runs from April 24 to May 1. This initiative not only underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering innovation in autonomous vehicle technology but also positions the city as a hub for advanced technological events.
