2024 All-Electric Dodge Charger Debuts With Muscle Car Heritage And Eco-Friendly Innovation

Stellantis has introduced two all-electric variations of the Dodge Charger, equipped with features that muscle car enthusiasts have grown to love, including a unique system designed to replicate the iconic rumble of a Hemi V-8 engine. The 2024 Charger Daytona Scat Pack and Daytona R/T trim, both electric vehicle (EV) coupes, are set to begin production in mid-2024, with four-door versions expected in the first quarter of 2025. While pricing details remain under wraps, these models signal a significant step towards Stellantis' ambition to reduce its global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2038.

The introduction of these next-generation Dodge Charger coupes is integral to Stellantis' broader strategy, which includes ambitious financial goals such as doubling net revenues to $335 billion annually by 2030 and sustaining double-digit profit margins. These vehicles join other key EVs in Stellantis’ lineup, such as the Fiat 500e and the forthcoming Ram Ramcharger and Ram 1500 Revolution EV, in the automaker's push towards electrification.

2024 Electric Dodge Charger Unveiled

In a nod to traditional muscle car fans, Dodge has announced that the next-generation Charger will also be available with internal combustion engines. However, these models will feature more efficient and cleaner 3-litre twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engines instead of the traditional Hemi V-8, promising enhanced power and torque. Production of these gas-powered models is slated for the first quarter of 2025, with assembly for the entire lineup occurring at the Windsor, Canada factory.

The launch of the 2024 Dodge Charger comes at a challenging time for the automotive industry, with U.S. and European manufacturers grappling with the evolving EV market landscape and increasing competition from Chinese firms. Despite these challenges, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares remains committed to the electric future, expressing confidence in the company's strategic direction and readiness for various political outcomes that could influence environmental policies and incentives.

Features and Performance of the Dodge Charger EVs

The 2024 Charger Daytona Scat Pack and Daytona R/T trims are equipped with a 100.5 kilowatt-hour battery pack and all-wheel drive as standard features. Customers will need to choose between prioritising speed and torque or extending the vehicle's range. The Daytona Scat Pack boasts 670 horsepower, can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds, complete a quarter-mile in roughly 11.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 134 mph, albeit with a range of 260 miles. On the other hand, the Daytona R/T trim offers 496 horsepower, a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 4.7 seconds, and an estimated range of 317 miles.

A distinctive feature of both EVs is the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, an innovative system that emulates the distinctive sound of a Hemi V-8 engine. This addition underscores Dodge's commitment to maintaining the muscle car's legacy even in its electric variants. Furthermore, the Scat Pack trim includes specialised driving modes such as drifting, doughnuts, track, and drag, each designed to maximise vehicle performance and driver experience in specific conditions.
