Middle East Tourism Set To Soar To $350 Billion By 2030, Powered By Business & Luxury Boom
In the Middle East, the tourism sector is experiencing remarkable growth, with projections indicating that tourism spending will rise by 50% by 2030 compared to 2024, reaching close to $350 billion. This surge is highlighted in the ATM Travel Trends Report 2025, which showcases the evolving dynamics of the travel industry both regionally and globally. Among the key trends fueling this expansion are the increasing popularity of business travel, the luxury travel segment's growth, and a boom in sports tourism within the region.
The report, prepared by Tourism Economics for the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), forecasts a significant increase in travel spending in the Middle East, which is expected to surpass 2019 levels by 54% this year. From 2025 to 2030, the region is set to enjoy an annual growth rate of over 7%.

"The report's findings confirm that travel growth in the Middle East is incredibly strong, with annual growth averaging more than 7% through 2030. Bold national visions, game-changing developments, and enhanced connectivity are some of the key factors driving this momentum," stated Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market.
A considerable part of this growth can be attributed to strategic investments in the aviation sector, with the four leading airlines in the region — Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Saudia — placing nearly 780 aircraft orders with manufacturers Boeing and Airbus. This move is a clear indication of the Middle East's ambitions to establish itself as a premier global aviation hub, catering to the increasing demand for air travel over the next decade. The region's strategic location, bridging Asia, Africa, and Europe, further enhances its appeal as a center for both business and leisure travel.
The Middle East is not just focusing on enhancing its connectivity and aviation capabilities but is also emerging as a significant hub for business events. Expected to grow 1.5 times faster than the global average through to 2030, spending on business travel in the Middle East underscores the region's rising prominence in the global events arena. This growth is facilitated by its advantageous geographical positioning and a trajectory that sees leisure travel flourishing alongside business travel.
The ATM Travel Trends Report 2025 also sheds light on the growing attraction of luxury and lifestyle tourism in the Middle East, driven by the region's unique hospitality, curated experiences, and premium cultural events. Global spending on luxury leisure hospitality is poised for brisk growth, anticipated to exceed $390 billion by 2028.
Curtis noted, "Travellers drawn to the Middle East tend to spend more on travel overall, nearly 60% habitually spending on luxury experiences while travelling compared to under 40% among travellers who favour other destinations."
This inclination towards luxury is evident in the proliferation of high-end hotel developments in the region, with nearly 100 luxury properties located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai alone, and 22 more currently under development. The allure of the Middle East for high-net-worth travelers is expected to persist, bolstered by upcoming luxury projects within Saudi Arabia's Giga projects.
The ATM 2025 event recognized the industry's craving for technological advancements and the increasing demand for business travel across the Middle East. In response, new zones such as IBTM@ATM and the Innovation Zone were introduced, aiming to cater to the growing audience eager to shape the future of travel.
"At ATM 2025, we recognised the industry's hunger for innovation in travel technology as well as the rising demand for business travel across the region. In response, we launched two dynamic new zones, IBTM@ATM and the Innovation Zone, designed to empower our growing audience to shape the future of travel with the speed and scale our exciting industry demands," Curtis commented.
The Middle East's capacity for hosting high-profile international events, such as the Qatar 2022 World Cup and Dubai Expo 2020, has set a precedent for the region's potential in sports tourism. The report predicts a 63% growth in sports tourism, with the 2034 FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia expected to sustain this momentum. Sports such as golf, motorsports, football, cycling, and esports are witnessing increased investment and visibility, contributing to a surge in travel demand related to these events.
The Middle East's travel and tourism sector is on a trajectory of robust growth, driven by strategic investments, a focus on luxury and business travel, and innovative responses to global travel trends. The region's efforts to become a global hub for aviation, business events, and sports tourism are positioning it as a vibrant destination for travelers seeking luxury, culture, and entertainment.
