Sharjah Increases Inter-City Bus Trips For Eid Al Adha Festivities

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has ramped up its operations to cater to the expected surge in public transport users this Eid Al Adha, with a robust plan that includes a significant increase in the number of inter-city trips. From Saturday, June 15, to Monday, June 18, residents and visitors will benefit from 4,800 trips across various city lines, ensuring convenient and accessible transportation during the festive period.

Eng. Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, highlighted the anticipated rise in public transportation usage during Eid holidays. The initiative is aimed at facilitating easy travel for those visiting friends and family or exploring Sharjah and other emirates. By boosting the transport system's capacity, the Authority aims to mitigate overcrowding and reduce wait times, thus enhancing the travel experience for all.

To support the increased demand, the Authority has prepared 121 buses to be operational daily out of a fleet of 484. This strategic move ensures that adequate transportation is available throughout Eid Al Adha. Furthermore, the Authority has optimized bus schedules to provide a bus every 10 minutes during peak hours on 15 main routes, a significant improvement from the usual 45-minute intervals.

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of the Authority for Transportation Affairs, disclosed plans for executing 1,144 daily trips using public buses, aiming for seamless accessibility across the emirate. On the first and second days of Eid, 110 buses will cover 12 routes and 506 stops within Sharjah, offering a diverse range of travel options to accommodate the holiday rush.

The Authority is also implementing measures to streamline travel, reducing the interval between trips and expanding ticket purchasing points to expedite passenger flow and minimize station crowding. Additionally, special bus services are being arranged to tourist destinations, with buses departing every 15 minutes to popular locations such as the Clouds Rest area and the city of Kalba's Hanging Gardens.

In collaboration with the Omani National Transport Company 'Mwasalat', SRTA provides daily bus services between Sharjah and Muscat. Route 203 sees two daily departures, with the first bus leaving Jubail bus station at 6:30 am and reaching Muscat by 4:00 pm, and vice versa. Tickets, priced at approximately 10 Omani Riyals (Dh100) for one-way and 19 Omani Riyals (Dh190) for a return trip, can be booked online or purchased at the Jubail bus station, facilitating cross-border travel between the UAE and Oman.
