Al Marjan Island To Jebel Jais In Just 20 Mins: Skyports To Elevate RAK Tourism With Electric Air Taxis

In a significant step towards redefining the future of transportation and tourism, the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA), Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), and Skyports Infrastructure have inked an innovative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic alliance sets the foundation for the introduction of electric air taxi services in the Emirate, heralding a new era of sustainable tourism and travel.

The collaboration marks a turning point in Ras Al Khaimah's ambitious plan to attract 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030, underscoring a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and cutting-edge transportation solutions. By leveraging Skyports' expertise in vertiport infrastructure, this partnership aims to connect Ras Al Khaimah's key destinations, including Al Marjan Island, Al Hamra, and Jebel Jais, through an efficient and zero-emission electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi network, with commercial operations anticipated to start by 2027.

The integration of Skyports' vertiport network with RAKTA's existing transportation infrastructure promises to dramatically decrease travel times across the Emirate. For instance, the journey from Al Marjan Island to Jebel Jais, which currently takes about 70 minutes by car, is expected to be reduced to under 20 minutes with the introduction of air taxi services. This initiative not only enhances the accessibility of Ras Al Khaimah's attractions but also significantly contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions in the travel and tourism sector, a critical step towards sustainable development.

Esmaeel Hasan Al Blooshi, Director General of RAKTA, emphasized the transformative impact of this partnership, stating, "By introducing electric air mobility, we're not just connecting tourists to our attractions, we're forging a sustainable path forward for our Emirate." This sentiment was echoed by Raki Phillips, CEO of RAKTDA, who highlighted the project's alignment with Ras Al Khaimah's goal to become a regional leader in sustainable tourism by 2025.

Duncan Walker, CEO and founder of Skyports, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, underlining the company's commitment to zero-emission aviation and its potential to support the UAE's transport and tourism objectives. This MoU not only signifies a leap towards sustainable transportation in Ras Al Khaimah but also positions the UAE as a pioneer in the global advanced air mobility industry. With Skyports at the forefront of vertiport development and having recently raised $110 million to support its ventures, the future of electric air mobility in the UAE looks promising.
