Qatari Nationals To Enjoy 90 Days Visa-Free Travel To The United States
Qatari nationals received a significant travel boost on September 24, 2024, when the United States announced Qatar's admission into its Visa Waiver Program, effective no later than December 1. This will make Qatar the first Gulf country to join this program, which will allow its citizens to go to the United States without needing a visa for up to 90 days.
Qatar's entering the U.S. Visa Waiver Program underlines its rise on the world stage, especially within international diplomacy and security. Qatar has played a significant role in international conflict resolution, such as the current Gaza crisis, and has supported humanitarian efforts, like hostage releases and aid to Sudan. This recognition by the U.S. is yet another acknowledgment of Qatar's contribution to international diplomacy and its ongoing cooperation in the fields of security and human rights.

Inclusion into the Visa Waiver Program did not come so easily. Qatar had to meet the rigid U.S. standards concerning counterterrorism, immigration, and law enforcement. This involved serious coordination between the two countries, with Qatar demonstrating a very strong political will to improve its security arrangement to live up to U.S. expectations.
Reciprocating the same warmth, Qatar returned the favor of hospitality to the citizens of the United States. If Americans are going to visit Qatar starting October 1, they will be accorded with an extension of up to 90 days visa-free, compared to the earlier restriction of 30 days. It is a new development considering the better relations between the countries, thereby furthering the ease of travel both ways: for Qatari visiting the United States and American citizens visiting Qatar.
As Qatar rises in prominence in the world, the Visa Waiver Program opens a new chapter in U.S.-Qatar relations with closer affinity between both countries and makes travel between the countries easier for citizens on both sides.
