Late Summer Getaways: France And Maldives Lead Travel Trends For UAE Residents

With the late summer season upon us, UAE travelers are eagerly finalising their vacation plans, and France has emerged as the most sought-after destination. A report from dnata Travel highlights a 12% increase in bookings for August and September compared to last year, signaling a strong desire for city explorations, retreats in cooler climates, and island getaways that are easy to reach.

The allure of France during its peak travel time in July, especially in August, is undeniable for those accustomed to the year-round warmth of the UAE. Travelers are drawn to the country's vibrant cities, cultural festivities, and the relief of cooler evenings, making it the top choice for those looking to experience a different kind of summer.

Top Destinations for UAE s Late Summer Travel

Following France, the Maldives retains its position as a favorite, with Thailand, Turkey, and surprisingly, Austria completing the top five destinations. Austria's appeal lies in its cooler weather and outdoor adventures, indicating a broader interest among travelers for varied climates and experiences.

City trips are currently the preferred choice, with family-oriented vacations and classic beach holidays following closely behind. This trend underscores a growing enthusiasm for engaging and dynamic travel, from weekend getaways to Vienna to explorations of Tokyo.

Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure at dnata Travel, notes a discernible trend among UAE travelers towards more thoughtful holiday planning. "Whether it’s cooler weather, a vibrant city break, or a destination that’s easy to get to and unwind in, it’s about getting the most out of their time away," she explained. This suggests an evolving preference for vacations that offer not just relaxation but also distinctive experiences.

Despite the tendency to book trips a few months in advance, there's an increasing inclination towards spontaneous travel, with some making arrangements merely weeks before departure. To cater to this demand for flexibility and surprise, dnata Travel introduced Secret Stays Maldives, a novel concept where travelers book luxury holidays without knowing the resort's name until after the reservation is confirmed. "This kind of travel reflects a shift in mindset," Ketait remarked. "For them, that sense of adventure is part of the appeal."

In addition to the favoured destinations, places like Greece, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Canada are gaining popularity for travel in August and September. These locations offer an enticing blend of mild weather, cultural richness, and unique seasonal activities, encouraging travelers to explore new horizons.

UAE residents show no sign of slowing down their travel plans, whether it's experiencing the iconic sights of Paris, indulging in the Maldives' luxury, or enjoying the last days of summer in Prague's picturesque streets. The desire to explore and experience new destinations remains strong, highlighting an enduring passion for travel.
