UAE GCAA Introduces New Measures To Combat Diseases In Air Travel

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) recently unveiled a pivotal strategy titled the "Protocol to Enhance Global Aviation Safety and Public Health Resilience", marking a significant step towards combating the spread of communicable diseases via air travel. This advanced protocol was introduced by the UAE delegation during the Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation (CAPSCA) Joint Meeting held in Germany, spotlighting the UAE's proactive measures in bolstering global aviation safety.

A cornerstone of the Protocol is its focus on rapid reporting by operators' stations, alongside fostering collaboration with local health authorities. This approach has not only received widespread acclaim from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and its member states but has also been lauded for its innovative stance in mitigating significant public health risks linked to air travel.

Saif Mohamed Al Suwaidi, the Director-General of GCAA, articulated the paramount importance of the Protocol, reinforcing the authority's unwavering commitment to advancing global aviation safety and public health resilience. This commitment is embodied through rigorous collaborative efforts with international partners, aiming to establish a safer, healthier airspace.

Aqeel Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of the Aviation Safety Affairs Sector, emphasized the Protocol's role as a significant milestone in the fight against communicable diseases.
