Etihad Airways And Air Europa Expand Strategic Partnership For Enhanced Travel Options

Etihad Airways, the UAE's national airline, and Spain's Air Europa are planning a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to enhance commercial and operational ties, offering travellers more choices, improved services, and better value. Etihad plans to increase its flights to Madrid to twice daily by summer 2025, ensuring smooth travel between Abu Dhabi and Spain.

The partnership aims to boost connectivity between Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. This will create seamless travel options across these important regions. The collaboration will also strengthen Air Europa’s presence in the Middle East and Asia by using Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub for greater connectivity.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, stated that discussions are underway for a strategic partnership covering various activities. These include enhancing codeshare agreements and frequent flyer programmes. "We are in discussions to establish a strategic partnership covering a range of activities," he said.

This partnership will allow both airlines to explore new opportunities. It may also involve a potential wet lease operation with an Air Europa aircraft between Madrid and Abu Dhabi. Such initiatives aim to benefit customers by providing a seamless travel experience and access to an expanded network.

Richard Clark, General Manager of Air Europa, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their partnership with Etihad Airways. He said this collaboration would be more rewarding for customers by initiating operations between Madrid-Barajas and Abu Dhabi. "It will further extend our reach to the Middle East and Asia," he noted.

The enhanced cooperation will open up more possibilities for connecting both regions to the Americas via Europe while maintaining high-quality standards. This move aligns with Air Europa's goal of increasing its footprint in these regions through Etihad's extensive network.

Etihad and Air Europa already share a bilateral codeshare agreement that allows frequent flyer members to earn and redeem miles on each other's flights. The new partnership aims to deepen these ties further, offering customers greater benefits from both airlines' networks.
