Emirates Adds More Flights To Colombo, Supporting Sri Lanka's Tourism Growth
Starting from 2 January 2025, Emirates, recognized as the world's most extensive international airline, will introduce an extra scheduled flight connecting Colombo and Dubai, labeled EK654/655. This decision marks a significant step in accommodating the anticipated growth in tourist numbers to Sri Lanka, enhancing the route's capacity by 30%.
The initiative aligns with Sri Lanka's objective to notably boost tourist arrivals by the year 2025, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the nation's tourism sector.
The introduction of this additional flight represents a strategic expansion by Emirates to cater to the increasing demand for travel between these two destinations. Initially, the service will run six times a week until 31 March 2025, excluding Wednesdays. Departures from Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 10:05hrs will see arrivals at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake by 16:00hrs, local time.
Conversely, the return flight, EK655, will leave BIA at 22:05hrs and arrive back in Dubai at 01:05hrs the following day. From 1 April 2025, an additional seventh flight will introduce a mid-week service on Wednesdays, with adjusted times to further enhance connectivity and travel flexibility for passengers.
Emirates' additional flight is designed to support up to 360 travelers, featuring 8 luxurious suites in First Class, 42 seats in Business Class, and 310 in Economy Class. This expansion not only enhances the passenger capacity but also elevates the travel experience, offering premium amenities across all classes.
With this addition, Emirates will now facilitate four daily flights between Colombo and Dubai, significantly increasing the daily seat availability to more than 2,800, along with the capability to transport up to 160 tonnes of cargo. This development underscores Emirates’ dedication to providing exceptional service and meeting the growing customer demand.
A pivotal aspect of this expansion is Emirates' long-standing collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism. This partnership focuses on promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for eco-conscious travelers, leveraging the airline's vast network to highlight the island's unique natural and cultural attractions.
