No More Turbulence: Discover How Emirates is Enhancing Your Flight With Advanced Weather Insights
Worried about turbulence? Well you shouldn't if you are flying via Emirates. In a recent collaboration, Emirates has tied up with International Air Transport Association's (ATA) Turbul Aware Platform, marking a significant step towards enhancing flight safety and operational efficiency.
This partnership positions Emirates as the inaugural airline to incorporate the IATA platform within the newest edition of Lido mPilot, Lufthansa Systems' mobile navigation solution. This integration promises to deliver real-time, highly accurate turbulence data and forecasts to pilots, enabling them to navigate around affected areas more effectively.

This strategic move by Emirates involves the equipping of over 140 of its aircraft with the necessary onboard software to automatically share turbulence data with other airlines participating in the program. Additionally, all new aircraft joining the Emirates fleet, including models such as the Airbus A350 and various Boeing series, will be enabled for participation. This initiative not only underscores Emirates' commitment to safety and efficiency but also contributes valuable data to the global aviation community.
Capt. Hassan Alhammadi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Flight Operations at Emirates Airline, expressed the airline's dedication to leveraging the latest industry technologies for the safety and comfort of its passengers. Emphasizing the importance of contributing to the industry's understanding of turbulence and weather patterns, Alhammadi highlighted the potential for future technological integrations to further enhance the flying experience.
Frederic Leger, IATA's Senior Vice President Commercial Products and Services, and Andreas Medlhammer, Product Owner Pilot Charting Apps at Lufthansa Systems, both lauded the collaboration. They noted the crucial role of accurate, real-time data in managing turbulence and improving flight safety. Medlhammer specifically pointed out the benefits for Emirates, including increased safety, reduced fuel consumption, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
The IATA Turbulence Aware platform is recognized as a vital resource for pilots and aviation professionals, offering detailed, real-time information on turbulence. By pooling anonymized data from thousands of flights worldwide, the platform enables more informed decision-making, allowing for smoother flights and optimal fuel efficiency. To date, the program has contributed to the safety of over 700 million passengers, a figure expected to rise as more airlines join the initiative.
Lido mPilot, tailored to Emirates' operational needs, furnishes pilots with essential tools such as terminal charts, dynamically generated enroute maps, and an Airport Moving Map (AMM). Featuring interactive maps and up-to-the-minute weather information, Lido mPilot significantly enhances pilots' situational awareness and flight planning capabilities.
