Al Khail Road Improvement Project Set To Enhance Dubai's Traffic Flow
Travel time on Dubai's Al Khail Road is set to decrease by an impressive 30%, thanks to a newly announced Dh700 million improvement project. The project, unveiled on Sunday, involves the construction of 5 bridges aimed at eliminating traffic congestion along this crucial highway. This significant initiative is expected to greatly enhance the flow of traffic, making commutes quicker and more efficient for Dubai's residents and visitors.
The Al Khail Road improvement project encompasses a series of upgrades across multiple strategic locations including Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle. With the contract for the project already awarded, these works are anticipated to address and alleviate traffic bottlenecks effectively.
Al Khail Road, a vital artery in Dubai's traffic network stretching from the Business Bay Crossing to its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, will see its six lanes in each direction significantly optimised. Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted that the project will also enhance the capacity of roads running parallel to and supporting Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and Emirates roads.
Targeted Improvements at Key Locations
The RTA has outlined specific enhancements at seven locations along Al Khail Road to boost traffic flow:
•Zabeel, with the addition of a three-lane bridge to facilitate direct access onto Al Khail Road and improved links to Financial Centre Street.
•Meydan, where a two-lane bridge will connect Al Meydan Road with Al Khail Road towards Deira, alongside other road improvements.
•Al Quoz 1, featuring a two-lane bridge to improve traffic flow from Al Meydan Road onto Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi.
•Ghadeer Al Tair, which will see a two-lane bridge enhancing connectivity from Latifa Bint Hamdan Street onto Al Khail Road towards Deira.
•Jumeirah Village Circle, set to benefit from a two-lane bridge improving access from Al Khail Road to Hessa Street.
•Al Jaddaf and Business Bay, where new lanes will be added to increase road capacity and ensure smoother traffic flow.
This project follows the successful upgrade of Al Khail Road in 2012, where roundabouts were transformed into flyovers to streamline traffic. With these further improvements, Dubai continues to invest in its infrastructure to meet the growing demands of its population and ensure the city remains a leading global hub for business and tourism.
