Coming Soon: Discover Saudi Arabia's Hidden Gems On The Dream of the Desert Luxury Train Journey

The mock-up of Saudi Arabia's first ultra-luxury train, Dream of the Desert, has been unveiled. This reveal, by Arsenale S.p.A., Italy’s leading company in luxury hospitality and experiential travel, took place at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, showcasing a new era for luxury rail travel in the Middle East.

Set to launch at the end of 2026, Dream of the Desert will travel 1,300 kilometres from Riyadh along existing railway lines. The itineraries range from one to two nights, showcasing Saudi Arabia's landscapes and cultural sites. Guests will visit UNESCO World Heritage sites and other hidden destinations soon to gain global recognition.

Luxury Train Features

Dream of the Desert will feature 31 private suites and two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests. The train includes two restaurant cars and a Majlis lounge with wood finishes, desert hues, and golden accents reflecting Saudi heritage. Dining options include local cuisine and an international menu with Italian influences, curated by renowned chefs for a Michelin-level experience.

The train's interiors are designed by Aline Asmar d'Amman, founder of Culture in Architecture. They honour Saudi heritage while incorporating Italian craftsmanship. Textures and carvings capture tradition, while earthy tones and Murano glass lighting evoke oriental warmth. The interiors celebrate Saudi landscapes and architectural legacy.

The Journey

Beyond its interiors, the train offers bespoke experiences like curated excursions and private performances. These extend beyond the rails, providing personalized services that enhance the journey through Saudi Arabia's beauty and culture.

Dr. Bashar Khalid AlMalik, CEO of SAR, highlighted that showcasing Dream of the Desert at FII demonstrates progress in Saudi transport projects. He noted it as a model partnership between SAR and global investors aligned with Vision 2030 to enhance tourism and attract investment.

Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser emphasized that this project reflects the transformation of Saudi Arabia's railway sector into world-class travel experiences. It supports foreign investments in transport and logistics with international partners' backing.

The collaboration between Arsenale Group and SAR merges Italian design excellence with authentic Saudi hospitality. With only 33 suites available, Dream of the Desert offers an intimate experience connecting guests to Saudi culture through luxury travel.

This unveiling milestone aligns with Vision 2030's ambition to elevate cultural tourism in Saudi Arabia. It positions Dream of the Desert as a benchmark for experiential rail travel in the Middle East while celebrating heritage through luxury journeys across captivating landscapes.

The train's design is a collaboration with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, and other key Saudi authorities. It was presented at FII's 9th edition under the theme "The Key to Prosperity," highlighting its exceptional design and immersive experience.
