This Little Hill Station In Himachal Pradesh Is Your Perfect 2-Day Getaway

India is filled to the brim with exquisite spots to visit that are not only cost-effective but also paints the subcontinent in an entirely new light. Today, I'm going to be introducing one such hill station that you might not have heard of before. But don't let its relative obscurity stand in the way of your wonder because Barog, a hill station near City of Solan in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is truly a beacon of beauty and rustic charm.

Where is Barog?

Barog lies on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kalka–Shimla Railway and is located just 60 km from Chandigarh on the Kalka-Shimla highway. While the ride to Barog might involve quite a bit of hairpin bends (make sure to take your travel sickness medication if you're prone to it), the view on the way is beyond picturesque. Nestled amidst the mountain range and amid a fresh breeze that will make you forget every single one of your worries, the city is perfect for a little weekend getaway.

Who will Enjoy Barog?

While everyone can enjoy Barog's offerings, it is perhaps most savoured by those living in the city. If you're tired of witnessing nothing but busy streets, clogged highways, and sky-high buildings, Barog will present to you a breath of fresh air--literally! It is small, cheap, and filled with lovely people of the hills who are more than happy to host you.

What to Do in Barog?

Despite its small size, there are several things to do in Barog. If you're more of a free-flowing person when it comes to trips and simply want to kick back and enjoy the scenic view and the beauty of the hill station, then you could settle down in one of the many hotels or holiday homes in Barog and take it from there.

However, if you're someone who like a definitive itinerary and want to enjoy every bit of what a place has to offer, here are a few spots you could visit in your weekend at Barog. You could visit the serene Dolanji Bon Monastery or scale the Choor Chandni Peak. Other touristy spots that are entirely worth your time include the Suketi Fossil Park, the Barog Camping Grounds and the Karol Tibba. If none of these interest you, there is always the option of trekking along the hills. The pleasant, chilly temperature, and the significant respite from the heat can make it incredibly relaxing while also giving yourself some much needed movement.

You could always end the trek with a steaming hot aloo paratha and a cup of sweet lassi to give it that authentic North Indian touch.

While not as well known as Shimla or Kandla, Barog is beloved by many. Prasanna Bhachhav, a 25-year-old writer, who arrived at Barog for a friend's wedding was mesmerised by the underrated gem. "The hills spread out in all directions, their folds evidence of the land's fluidity. We didn't see a single sunrise in Barog, but every sunset painted us pink and red, our faces jubilant, if awestruck, at the exhilarating possibility of enduring love."

If you're someone who love the hills and want to spend a couple euphoric, peaceful days amidst the chilly altitudes of Barog, then this spot is perfect for you. Not only will it offer you a mental reset and a fair dose of nature that will fortify your body and mind, it is also resplendent and makes for the best Instagram pictures. Another option that a lot of people are now making use of is curating for themselves a destination wedding amidst the hills in Barog for a weekend that friends and family wouldn't soon forget!
